The jargon, translated
Answer engine optimisation is the work of structuring your online presence so AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name your business in their answers. Where SEO earns you a ranked link on a results page, AEO earns you the recommendation itself.
Generative engine optimisation is the same discipline under its research name: the term comes from a Princeton-led study of what makes content visible to generative engines. In practice, AEO and GEO describe the same work, and the engines your clients use don't care what we call it.
Citeability is my word for the quality both are chasing: whether an AI engine can find you, trust you, and quote you as yourself rather than flattening you into a generic expert. I measure it across six dimensions: identity, structure, proof, readability, question-fit, and voice.
Brisbane businesses need to be found
Before anyone lands on your website, they've asked an AI engine who's worth talking to, and the shortlist comes back written. If your competitor is the name in that answer and you aren't, the job was decided before you knew it existed.
That's as true for a Paddington studio or a Newstead consultancy as it is for a national firm. The engines don't weigh your postcode. They weigh whether they can find you, trust you, and quote you.
This isn't guesswork about where search is heading. The Princeton-led study that coined GEO found that restructuring content with quotations, statistics and cited sources lifted visibility in generative engine answers by up to 40%. The signals that win are specific and buildable, which is exactly what this work is.
It's also the method this page runs on itself: what this is, who does it and what it costs all land inside the first sixty words, the FAQs are phrased the way people actually type them, and there's ProfessionalService, Offer and FAQPage schema underneath. View source, it's all there.
The method
Six things, and only six. I score each one on your business, show you exactly where you're losing the answer, then fix them in the order that moves your visibility fastest.
Receipts
Andre coaches men over 40. When we started, AI engines had never heard of him; six weeks into the citeability work, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI and Grok were all naming him for his core client queries, most of them first. The search numbers moved with the citations.
"She really understood my needs and built exactly what I needed."
Impressions and positions from Google Search Console, H2 2025 vs H1 2026. AI answers vary run to run, so visibility is measured as a pattern across engines and dates, never one screenshot. Read the full case study.

Fair questions
SEO optimises for ranked links in traditional search results. AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) are two names for the newer discipline of getting named inside AI-generated answers. The signals differ: structured evidence, third-party corroboration and entity clarity matter far more than keyword volume. Good SEO still helps, and a technically healthy site feeds both. It just isn't sufficient on its own anymore.
The prices are published rather than hidden behind a discovery call. The self-scored check is free, the Citeability Snapshot is $197 and the AI Visibility Audit is $2,000, all fixed, all AUD. The Citeability Engine build starts at $5,000 and is quoted on your actual scope, because a five-page site and a two-hundred-page one are not the same job. Ongoing calibration runs from $400 a month. Your Snapshot fee credits in full toward the Audit if you upgrade within 30 days.
Six things, in order of impact. I make your identity unambiguous to the engines, so they can pin down who you are and what you do. I restructure your expertise into answers they can lift and quote. I build the third-party corroboration they trust before vouching for you. I clear anything blocking their crawlers. I cover the questions your clients actually type, not the keywords a tool suggested. And I sharpen your point of view so you get cited as yourself instead of flattened into a generic expert.
Ask it, but not the way most people do. Searching your own business name proves almost nothing, because the engines will find you once you have named yourself. Ask the question a client would ask, in their words, with no brand name in it, and run it a few times across a few engines in a logged-out window. If your name never comes back, that is your answer. The free check walks you through the whole process.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, plus Claude, Gemini and Grok. I run your real client queries across the engines your clients actually use and track the answers over time. The underlying signals overlap heavily, so work that earns you a citation in one engine usually moves the others too, which is why the fixes get prioritised by impact rather than by platform.
Some of it, and I would rather you knew that up front. The free check gives you the six dimensions and a score. The $197 Snapshot gives you at least 8 ranked fixes you can hand to whoever builds your site. What is genuinely hard to do alone is working out which fixes matter in your category and what your competitors did to own the answer, because that takes running the engines properly and reading the pattern across dates, not one search on your own name.
Honestly, it depends, and no one credible will hand you a date. Some moves shift answers within weeks; deeper category positions build over months, because citeability runs on signals that compound: structured evidence, third-party corroboration, entity clarity. My client Andre was being named across four engines about six weeks into the work, but I measure progress across engines and dates rather than promising it.
Yes. The two are complementary, not rivals. A crawlable, technically healthy site with real authority feeds both traditional rankings and AI answers, and the engines lean on search indexes to ground what they say. What changes is the goal: a ranked link is no longer the finish line, being named in the answer is. If your SEO is already solid, AEO is the layer that turns that foundation into recommendations.
No, and small founder-led businesses are often better placed than big ones. AI engines recommend the specific fit, not the biggest brand, so a clearly defined founder with a narrow specialty and real proof is exactly what they can confidently cite. The ladder exists so the work scales to your size: start with the free check or the $197 Snapshot and only go deeper if the findings justify it.
No. I live and work in Brisbane, and I like working with local founders, but the work itself is remote and my clients are spread across Australia, including Melbourne, where I spent most of my career. Being local matters if you want to talk this through over an actual coffee. The citeability work is the same either way.
As a pattern across engines and dates, never a single screenshot. I track citations on your real client queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and others, alongside movement in search impressions, positions and leads. AI answers vary run to run, which is exactly why one good screenshot proves nothing and a repeated pattern proves a lot.
